Rose, Elmo, Newborn baby found in a shoe box
A newborn girl was found in a shoebox outside a Queens home Friday morning – and detectives suspect the mother could be a 19-year-old hospitalized with heavy bleeding.
The infant, wrapped in a purple towel, was found just past 7 a.m. by a resident of 28th St. in Astoria, police said.A red-and-white rose and a large Elmo placard were also left at the scene.
The newborn, whose umbilical cord was still attached, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was in stable condition.”The baby is fine,” a police source said.
Police contacted a number of hospitals and learned that a 19-year-old at New York Hospital-Queens was being treated for heavy bleeding. It has not been determined if she is the baby’s mother.
