A flash flood is being blamed for killing three people in Pittsburgh.
A mother and two children drowned inside a car after floodwaters washed their vehicle away.Police are now searching for an elderly woman who disappeared when her car got stuck in the flood waters.
The flash flood hit at the absolute worst time — rush hour. The water was nine feet deep. Emergency responders paddled up and down searching for submerged vehicles, rescuing about a dozen stranded people. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get everybody.”Once the water had receded, officials found a minivan they hadn’t seen before. Inside, a woman and two children had not survived.
“We were right over the top of the vehicle that unfortunately, the victims were in, and never knew they were there. The bottom of the boat didn’t even scrape against the top of the car.”
“That particular vehicle was pinned against a tree and the occupants were unable to escape.”
